CHL on campus?

Posted by Smokey on February 16, 2009

The Texas Legislature will be presented a bill this term which would allow those who have a C.H.L. (concealed handgun license) to carry on COLLEGE campuses. I only emphasize the word COLLEGE, because the opponents of that bill are leaving it out completely, so as to present the image that this would open up all “campuses” and therefore scare people into thinking we will see people in kindergarten classes with guns. Well, that is NOT true. As a college student, I am more readily aware of what goes on day in and day out on campus. Granted, more than 95% of the time, people just go to class, visit the library or S.U.B. then go home or back to their dorm, but the events of Columbine showed us that High School is not 100% safe, Virginia Tech showed us college is 100% safe, and the events of Beslan showed us the dangers of our world in shocking detail. Now, am I trying to be a fear mongerer, not at all. Most of the time, people are decent, law abiding citizens simply going about their day, but not always. Columbine was a hostage situation, and having been a law enforcement official (though I learned in that year that I am not cut out for it), I can say that is a situation where a civilian attempting to use a firearm would be HORRIBLE! Virginia Tech, however, was simply a case of one person “going postal”, and the responses are to either “stop the attack”, which sadly means lethal force some of the times, or let it play out as was done. The Police responded as quickly as they could, but as you can see, they weren’t fast enough to prevent all of the carnage.

I attend College in the DFW area, and having lived in the highly populated area almost 19 years, I can tell you that even with lights and sirens, response from only five blocks would be about a 10 to 20 minute response. Should someone “go postal” on my campus, if I were armed, I would be able to act, but the law currently disallows that.

Moving to the major argument, that the Police are supposed to prevent crime and such, I HOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE! I tried that job, and I don’t want it. However, the argument that letting “anyone who wants” to carry a weapon on campus is, and pardon the expression, but bull puckey! The C.H.L. process involves an EXTENSIVE background check, and a FULL DAY of explanation of the laws. This is not simply so we know what is written, as I’ve spoken to several instructors. They watch those in their class for signs of being able to handle the responsibility or not. This is a major reason that LESS THAN HALF OF ONE PERCENT of crimes in Texas are committed by C.H.L. holders. So, all of that said, there are two links below. The first is the article that brought all of this to my attention. The second (and let me know if it “dies” after about the 18th of Feb), is my response. In the first, it’s the article “above the fold” and my reply in the second is “below the fold”.

Rules for Non-Military Personell

Posted by Smokey on November 27, 2008

I’ve received this e-mail before, but never posted it, but I just couldn’t resist this time. Enjoy!

Dear Civilians, We know that the current state of affairs in our great nation has many civilians up in arms and excited to join the military. For those of you who can’t join, you can still lend a hand. Here are a few of the areas where we would like your assistance

1. The next time you see any adults talking (or wearing a hat) during the playing of the National Anthem – kick their ass.

2. When you witness, firsthand, someone burning the American Flag in protest – kick their ass.

3. Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the highest amount of respect to all veterans. If you see anyone doing otherwise, quietly pull them aside and explain how these veterans fought for the very freedom they bask in every second. Enlighten them on the many sacrifices these veterans made to make this Nation great. Then hold them down while a disabled veteran kicks their ass.

4. (GUYS) If you were never in the military, DO NOT pretend that you were. Wearing battle dress uniforms (BDUs) or Jungle Fatigues, telling others that you used to be ‘Special Forces,’ and collecting GI Joe memorabilia, might have been okay when you were seven years old. Now, it will only make you look stupid and get your ass kicked.

5. Next time you come across an Air Force member, do not ask them, ‘Do you fly a jet?’ Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot. Such ignorance deserves an ass-kicking (children are exempt).

6. If you witness someone calling the US Coast Guard ‘non-military’, inform them of their mistake – and kick their ass.

7. Next time Old Glory (the US flag) prances by during a parade, get on your damn feet and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your heart. Quietly thank the military member or veteran lucky enough to be carrying her – of course, failure to do either of those could earn you a
severe ass-kicking.

8. Don’t try to discuss politics with a military member or a veteran. We are Americans, and we all bleed the same, regardless of our party affiliation. Our Chain of Command is to include our Commander-In-Chief (CinC). The President (for those who didn’t know) is our CinC regardless of political party. We have no inside track on what happens inside those big important buildings where all those representatives meet; all we know is that when those civilian representatives screw up the situation, they call upon the military to go straighten it out. If you keep asking us the same stupid questions repeatedly, you will get your ass kicked!

9. ‘Your mama wears combat boots.’ never made sense to me – stop saying it! If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore could kick your ass!

10. Bin Laden and the Taliban are not Communists, so stop saying ‘Let’s go kill those Commies!’ And stop asking us where he is! Crystal balls are not standard issue in the military. That reminds me – if you see anyone calling those damn psychic phone numbers, let me know, so I can go kick their ass!

11. ‘Flyboy’ (Air Force), ‘Jarhead’ (Marines), ‘Grunt’ (Army), ‘Squid’(Navy), ‘Puddle Jumpers’ (Coast Guard), etc., are terms of endearment we use describing each other. Unless you are a service member or vet, you have not earned the right to use them. Using them could get your ass kicked.

12. Last, but not least, whether or not you become a member of the military, support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving and religious holiday that you enjoy with family and friends, please remember that there are literally thousands of soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen far from home wishing they could be with their families. Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every day. Without them, our country would get it’s ‘ass kicked.’

‘It’s the Veteran, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press.’

‘It’s the Veteran, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.’

‘It’s the Veteran, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.’

‘It’s the Military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag. and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.’

Next:

13. If you ever see anyone either standing for or singing the national anthem in Spanish – KICK THEIR ASS.

Last one:

14.If you got this email and didn’t pass it on – guess what – you deserve to get your ass kicked!

Election thoughts

Posted by Smokey on November 5, 2008

I’ve heard a lot of stuff for the last (almost) two years, most of it, though, since the official nominations. Most recently it’s been mostly that “McCain is out of touch and Obama will unite the country”, but no one seems to really want to discuss this. Obama has been in the Senate and been just as much a part of the problem as other Dems in blocking the President’s moves to lower taxes, properly execute the war, secure our national borders, and so on. When asked about this, it’s always “Bush’s fault for not working with the Dems in Congress”, yet when the roles were reversed (Clinton with a GOP Congress), it was the GOP’s fault for not working with the President. How is that all of a sudden Obama will be able to “cross the party line”? He certainly hasn’t to date?

Another issue is the reports that groups of people are planning a “civil war” if Obama isn’t elected. Interesting, isn’t it, that they can do that and it’s “free speech”, but if someone said that same thing but was talking about if McCain wasn’t elected, they are “bigots” or “racists” or “trying to further divide the country.”

How many countries on the planet are like ours? We have the most lax border security in a LONG time. We constantly force FOREIGN languages on those who are citizens (DMV, courts, ect….), all in the name of “diversity”, yet those same countries whose people (Mexico mostly) are coming here ILLEGALLY and demanding we learn their language, are the opposite. Did you know Mexico has a fence on their southern border guarded by their military, yet said that our doing THE SAME THING would be akin to an act of war. When our people ask for a national language (ENGLISH) as most people here speak that language, we are “racist” and “trying to deny the poor immigrants their heritage”, but try to speak english in Mexico beyond the border where they want to sell you some piece of crap, and you are all but laughed at (unless it’s at an over priced hotel/resort/other tourist trap, then they smile and take your money).

All I’m saying is this, DNC, GOP, Independant, really doesn’t matter. Our politicians are just that, POLITICIANS, and until we FIRE THEM ALL (and as voters, voting someone else into office is “firing the incumbent”), we will have MORE OF THE SAME CRAP, and not be able to do much about it.

OK, rant over, Smokey out.

This is almost too funny to be true, but sadly

Posted by Smokey on November 3, 2008

I can believe it, because I’ve seen it.

Sal In Harlem

All right, at this point I have to put in my two cents on this “issue”. For years we’ve been hearing many things. Most recently (this election season), is that Obama isn’t voted for simply because of race. However, when viewed as a group, African-Americans tend to be some of the most conservative people I can think of. My friends in this group are almost universally pro-life, pro-military (not “kill’em all” gung ho, but still), and so on, yet they almost all vote for the DNC candidates, why? The DNC is for higher taxes, “pro-choice” (or as I call it, pro-murder, and I’ll put up a post going further in depth on that later), consistently hamstrings our military and more, so why would a traditionally conservative group of people vote for the most liberal party there is? Odd, isn’t it?

Received from a friend

Posted by Smokey on March 6, 2008

For those who don’t know, I’ve read Harry Potter since just after the theatrical release of the second movie, Chamber of Secrets.  Yes, I realize the complete irony that I, who made fun of my HP fan friends mercilessly, would be a fan as well, but the books are quite good, and very well written.  That said, after I finished HP and the Deathly Hallows (last book), I started to wonder about the time gap (not a spoiler by intent, but there is a gap of 19 years), and began reading fan fiction, where I met some interesting people after reading their take on that issue.  Along the road several have been engaged in creating their own version of Harry’s story starting at various points, some even re-writing his entire life, but there is one issue my friend asked me to put to my readers.

He was writing a story, well, a trilogy to be accurate, which involved time travel.  One of the stories he was reading, and I subsequently looked at, involved a character that was not in “canon” (JKR’s books), and as such, was completely original.  Now, he realized that no matter how much time and effort he put into his work, nothing would be as perfect a fit to his story as this original character, and sent a message to that fan-fic author about incorporating said original character into his works.  I will grant that he may have been a bit over zealous, as he didn’t wait long before he just did it, but one person at the fan-fic site where the story he read is hosted decided to begin harassing and villifying him for it.  I’m not trying to discount the work needed to create a character, but this is FAN FICTION people.  No one is making money, no copy rights are being infringed on (hence the standard “I don’t own HP” disclaimer).  The author was civil, and while a bit miffed he didn’t wait for her to say it was OK, she eventually just let the issue go and he made sure to credit her with creation of that character.

So, the questions are thus:

1 – If you create a character for FAN FICTION, where you cannot profit in ANY WAY from the story you write, how far is too far in “defending” your work?

2 – If a story is abanoned (and marked as such), should a writer contact the original author for permission to pick it up, or just run with it.  If they should ask, how long is acceptable to wait with no response before just going for it?

His point was that the person harassing him (who did NOT write said story, or create said character) was just being a petty, vindictive, and all around childish person.  I agree with that, and that maybe my friend should have waited longer for permission, but that is neither here nor there.

As for the second question, the general consensus is that if a story is marked abandoned, it’s fair game.  However, it is polite to ask, and if no response is received within 2 to 3 weeks, just note that you did ask and heard nothing when/if you post it.  He asked me to post that question mostly to just get some extra input.

All of this said, have a wonderful day while I marvel at the SNOW in MARCH in TEXAS!

His name is Barack Obama, and he probably didn’t approve this message.

Posted by Smokey on February 21, 2008

A paid political announcement by Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL)

Barack

My fellow Identity-Americans.

As your future President I want to thank my supporters, for their… well, support.

Your mindless support of me, despite my complete lack of any legislative achievement, my pastor’s relations with Louis Farrakhan and Libyan dictator Moamar Quadafi, or my blatantly leftist voting record while I present myself as some sort of bi-partisan agent of change.

I also like how my supporters claim my youthful drug use and criminal behavior somehow qualifies me for the Presidency after 8 years of claiming Bush’s youthful drinking disqualifies him. Your hypocrisy is a beacon of hope shining over a sea of political posing.

I would also like to thank the Kennedy’s for coming out in support of me. There’s a lot of glamour behind the Kennedy name, even though JFK started the Vietnam War, his brother Robert illegally wiretapped Martin Luther King, Jr. and Teddy killed a teenage girl. And I’m not going anywhere near the cousins, both literally and figuratively.

And I’d like to thank Oprah Winfrey for her support. Her love of meaningless empty platitudes will be the force that propels me to the White House.

Americans should vote for me, not because of my lack of experience or achievement, but because I make people feel good. Voting for me causes some white folk to feel relieved of their imagined, racist guilt.

I say things that sound meaningful, but don’t really mean anything because Americans are tired of things having meaning. If things have meaning, then that means you have to think about them.

Americans are tired of thinking.

It’s time to shut down the brain, and open up the heart.

So when you go to vote in the primaries, remember don’t think, just do.

And do it for me.

Thank You.

This is just WRONG!

Posted by Smokey on December 31, 2007

It seems that a Marine recently had his car KEYED, and it would seem that this SCUM attorney feels he will get away with it. Personally, I would say that the USMC Jag lawyers need to begin handling this case, as the Marine in question CAN sign afadavits which give the Jag lawyers the power to appear on his behalf. Second, this lawyer needs to be DISBARRED for his horrible actions, and never allowed to practice law again.

When did it become “free speech” to DEFACE PRIVATE PROPERTY? This lawyer knows the Marine in question will be leaving for Iraq and most likely plans to file motion after motion to delay court appearances until the Marine cannot appear in court. The other officials involved have tried to convince the Marine to accept an offer to simply pay the $100 deductable and let his insurance cover the rest, never mind that his premiums would go up.

This is the same CRAP that is spouted when people accuse others of stifling their free speech. I have heard of people who feel it is “free speech” to HARASS and INSULT people, simply because it is in public. In another case, a city council-man was picketed, harassed, and almost ASSAULTED for his stance that the city he served should enforce U.S. Immigration LAW. He was NOT promoting people go vigilante and round up illegal aliens, he was simply stating that the CITY GOVERNMENT should <gasp> ENFORCE THE LAW!

Here’s the deal people, your rights END where mine begin. YES, you can “say whatever you want”, or “express yourself” symbolically, but you are NOT free from the consequences of your speech/actions. If you don’t like me, and decide to key my car (and I catch you in the act), you cannot say it was “free speech” and get away with it. Yes, you were “expressing yourself”, but it’s MY CAR, and therefore you will be SUED if you refuse to pay for the repairs. You can, if you are stupid enough, decide to punch me for wearing something that shows support for the military. If you do this, however, I have the right to defend myself, and just so you know, the last time I defended myself, the poor sap spent a good amount of time in pain afterward.

If you disagree with me, why not be an adult and approach me in a civil manner? I am an adult, and I actually prefer to work out differences and disagreements without resorting to violence and/or childish behavior. As for this attorney, I hope you are tied up in paperwork so long that your GRANCHILDREN need lawyers.

Welcome, again.

Posted by Smokey on December 30, 2007

Well, for those keeping count, I am now on my third URL with the same blog. For now, I just cannot justify the expense of domain registration and hosting with as little blogging as I do while in school. As my education will continue officially (I’ve always love the mantra “never stop learning”) for at least two more years, I’m not going to keep the vanity domain for now. Anyway, update your bookmarks and if you have me on your blog-roll (THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THAT!), update there as well. Until next time, if you can’t be good, don’t get caught!

By the way, if you notice any posts that are duplicated, just let me know and I’ll take care of that.  I tried importing my posts from my other domain, but it seems that WordPress may have duplicated some posts…..

More proof that AAM disease is permeating society!

Posted by Smokey on December 22, 2007

For those of you who watch at least an hour or two of “non-news-channel” TV every day or so, you’ve probably seen the “Whopper Freakout” commercials. Burger King, in a very interesting marketing campaign, is trying to convince the country that if the Whopper went away, life would be horrible. The sad part is this, the reactions are NOT fake, or at least not all. I watched the taping of one of those commercials, and people were told after they went off on the counter person that it was just a commercial. Why is it that when a FAST FOOD RESTAURANT which is owned by SOMEONE ELSE decides to change the menu, the customers feel they have the “right” to freak out, demand the item be made special for them, speak to the manager, curse at the employees, or (as I saw in one case) THROW THINGS at the employees? Yes, I watched people curse at strangers, demand that an item they had just been told was no longer available be made “just for them”, and one man threw the cash register (well, more pushed it, but you get the idea) because he couldn’t get a whopper. You know what, if a fast food place I frequent gets rid of my favorite item, I DON’T EAT THERE, but I don’t assume I have the right to DEMAND they change their business practices just for me. Well, enough ranting for today, I have to get to my grand-parents’ house for dinner, and I have two stops to make first. Merry Christmas all and God Bless.

Coming soon

Posted by Smokey on December 14, 2007

I am in the process of revising (for the 8th time) an essay for one of my classes. As I don’t even start the class until January, it will be at least a week or two more before I have it done, but I am planning to post it here. So, keep an eye out for “Are Liberals the new Conservatives, and Conservatives the new Liberals?”

A Quick Update

Posted by Smokey on November 21, 2007

Well, it’s been quite a while, but I’m not completely gone, just busy at school. Also, for those that don’t know, I am a bit of a reader, and I have been indulging that bit of my personality, which is doing me some good right now. Mostly, I like to read fiction, or political science non-fiction (stuff like O’Reilly, Colmes, Glenn Beck and so on). For those who like fiction, I suggest FanFiction.net as many of the writers there are quite gifted, and just choose to write fanfiction in stead of their own books. For those who, like me, are Harry Potter fans, check out a friend of mine who writes at FanFiction.net, as well as his “better half”, they are quite good. Aside from that, I hope to begin posting again, but only time will tell there.

Into every life, rain must fall

Posted by Smokey on August 10, 2007

And I’m stuck in a tumult born of tsunamis and hurricanes right now. I do not wish to go into great detail, but I am fighting some fierce issues right now. I need to, as all of us do, take care of me right now. I will be on the air this Sunday at 0800hrs CST for a “going on hiatus show”, and I’m going to stop blogging and broadcasting/podcasting for as long as it takes to solve this. For my close friends, trust that I am healthy and safe, but mentally I am DRAINED and I feel as if I’m going to go INSANE right now, so I’m taking some time to get this under control. If you have my personal e-mail address (or Yahoo IM name), feel free to ask, and I’ll say something I’m sure, I’d love to bounce this off others, but I am keeping it to close friends, for now. Until I return, make sure to visit those in my blogroll list, and listen to the others on TIB Radio.

Bridge collapses in Minneapolis/St. Paul

Posted by Smokey on August 1, 2007

At this time, there is no evidence that this is related in any way to an act of terrorism, and this particular bridge has been under construction. Pray for those who lost someone in this disaster, and for the injured. Also, keep those who are working to save all who can be saved, as well as those who are going to be called on to repair the damage eventually. I will be monitoring the situation and I will bring you any updates as they are available.

What I’ve noticed in the Harry Potter books (possible book 7 spoiler!!!!!)

Over the last nine years, the world has been enthralled with the world of Harry Potter, culminating in the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows this year. Each book a bit darker than the last, with the emergence of a new villain to face and defeat. Harry begins his fight at the age of eleven after barely even beginning his education at Hogwarts. In this piece I’m going to go over a few things I’ve noticed in the books, and I will warn you, the book seven section will spoil the book for you if you have not read it, so you have been warned. New Scam Alert

Posted by Smokey on July 31, 2007

This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below).

Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take summons for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of scam has surfaced. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity just got stolen. The scam has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma, Illinois, and Colorado. This (scam) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they’re with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.

Smoke Signals Radio – Wrap Up 7/29/07

Posted by Smokey on July 29, 2007

Well, today’s show was a bit shorter than others, due to my voice not being what it usually is. Also, I would like feedback from you as to the quality of the live show (the podcast should be fine, as it was a direct recording from the mic), as I was getting odd messages all throughout the show this morning, and I’m not sure what to make of them. Hopefully your feedback will help me tweak the software and make sure that future shows are as high quality as I can produce.

As for topics for today, I discussed only three items. Links are below so you can see for yourself, and of course for further background as to my discussion. Until next week…..

Two stories for today, and a reminder.

Posted by Smokey on July 29, 2007

First, the reminder, in less than 7 hours, I will be on the air for my first live show in a few weeks. I’m not sure what the topic(s) will be, but you can bet it won’t be boring.

Next, it seems that some “mental giants” in north Texas decided to rob a local “Spy Supply” store. The owner commented that he has video from SEVENTEEN CAMERAS, including clear shots of their faces, their car, and their plates. Guys, this is a Darwin Award winner if I ever saw one!

Last, it seems a local man in DFW is stirring up a little controversy with a sign outside his business. As reported on My Fox DFW, a local bar owner, who lets his patrons choose his slogan for the month, put up a sign that reads “Welfare started as a hand up, not a generational lifestyle”, and has taken heat for it, even been called “hateful” and “racist”. Amazing, isn’t it, that when anyone points out that people are SPONGING OFF OTHERS they are “hateful” and “racist”, but when one of those people says something like, oh I don’t know, calling our military men and women “murderers”, and supporting the TERRORISTS who fly planes into buildings, well, they are just “exercising their right to free speech”. Listen, the crux of this is very plain. Either EVERYONE or NO ONE has freedom of speech. If you have the right to silence me, I have the right to silence you. I do NOT have to agree with what you say, nor do you have to agree with me. You do NOT have the right to deny me saying it, nor can I deny you the right to voice disagreement, but when you stoop to name calling, well that proves nothing and accomplishes nothing. As for this sign, could it be that the truth hurts?

Well, I need to finish my shift, so I bid you farewell, and I will speak to you all at 8:00AM Central Time when Smoke Signals Radio hits the air again!

Smoke Signals Radio Update 7/21/07

Posted by Smokey on July 21, 2007

Due to continued computer problems, and trust me, at this point I am very close to borrowing some C4 and “solve” the “Toshiba problem” once and for all, but I need a computer, so I can’t do that can I? Anyway, I am going to be working pretty much all day today to reinstall software and finish the last part of re-loading this dinosaur, and if successful, I will be live at 0800CST tomorrow, if not, I promise to be live on the 5th, and by that time I should not have any interruptions from then on, as I should have my Mac shortly after that, and then the Toshiba will become solely my broadcasting machine…..until next time, here’s hoping.

I’m back, sort of…..

Posted by Smokey on July 18, 2007

Well, after more than 24 hours of hell installing software, I’m STILL NOT DONE! For those who didn’t read my post about light blogging, I caught a nasty little virus that kept opening pop-ups using a broswer I DON’T EVEN USE ANY MORE! (I use Firefox now). Anyway, after trying for about a week to find the little bugger and delete it, I finally just backed up all of my data and did a “wipe and reload” yesterday morning. Well, so far so good, but I’m quite tired of staring at a computer, so I’m just going to give ya’all a few links and then call it a day, not to mention I have about 5 gigs worth of stuff downloading from my virtual storage, so I need to free the line. Anyway, enjoy the links and don’t forget to listen in on Sunday at 8AM central time for Smoke Signals Radio. Read the rest of this entry »

Blogging will be VERY light for about another week

Posted by Smokey on July 16, 2007

Heck, my entire computer LIFE will be virtually non-existent for about another week. I seem to have caught a nasty little computer virus that blocks any and all programs from accessing the internet (hence the reason I’m at the library posting this). Therefore, I am going to have to move ALL of my data to my backup drive, then re-load this machine, then move the data back, then re-install pretty much EVERY PROGRAM I USE, then re-register them, then set them back up, and so on and so on and so on…..

That situation, coupled with my desire to finish re-reading book 6 before Saturday, when my copy of book 7 arrives, means that re-loading may take longer than before, as I may be distracted and such. Not to mention that I may have a date Friday to see Order of the Phoenix at one of the local IMAX theatres, so who knows if this will take a day, or a week, but I WILL be live on Sunday at 8:00AM, so make sure you are there. Until then, comments for this post will be considered “On Topic” as long as they discuss one of the topics below…..

1 – Good anti-virus software (non-Norton/McAfee)
2 – Harry Potter (book 7)
3 – Harry Potter (any movie)

Other than those, other topics should go to the Discussion Forum or the post that addresses the issue you are commenting about. Until next time, play nice…..

Shirley Phelps-Roper arrested in Nebraska

Posted by Smokey on July 10, 2007

Those who read blogs and such know the name Westboro “Baptist Church”. I put that part in quotations because that “congregation” does NOT represent true Christian values. This group has gained immense fame because of their repeated protests at the funerals for fallen soldiers, as well at pretty much any gay event they can find out about.

This case however, is one of Phelps-Roper trying to have it both ways. You see, she says that America is “being punished” for “being permissive of homosexuality”, yet she wants that same Constitution (which gives homosexuals the SAME FREEDOM she enjoys) to get this charge dropped. You see, a 1977 Nebraska law prohibits trampling on a U.S. Flag (and presumably the Nebraska flag too, but that isn’t an important point here). Police reported that

“It appears the adults weren’t stepping on the flag because they knew it was a violation of the law. But they allowed the children to go ahead and do that.”

This led charges to be filed against Phelps-Roper for

negligent child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, flag mutilation and disturbing the peace

In a quote from the article

“I have not failed to do my duty to my children, to my God or to my fellow countrymen, and I take my job dead serious,” Phelps-Roper told the Associated Press.

Yet, she seems to forget that as a mother, and in her own description, a Christian, she is to respect the laws of man as long as they do not conflict with God’s law. I do not know of ONE OF GOD’S LAWS which commands her to TRAMPLE THE FLAG, or DEMEAN THE DEAD! One sign I have seen this group carry quite often says “don’t worship the dead”, yet I cannot wonder if she has ever attended a funeral where she mourned the loss of a friend/loved one. If so, why is that NOT “worshiping the dead”, but other people doing THAT VERY SAME THING is?

Anyway, in closing, I just want Mrs. Phelps-Roper to answer one question for me. Christ himself was a Jewish man, and kept ALL of the laws of the Torah. With that in mind, and the REPEATED references (in the NEW and OLD testaments) to Israel as being “chosen” by God, why do you feel we should now ABANDON THEM?
